Rx:Volunteer
is a multi-sector initiative in the San Francisco area launched
to promote the health benefits of volunteerism for older adults
and to encourage health care providers to use volunteer service
as a health promotion strategy.
Rx:Volunteer
has five overarching goals:
- Expand awareness and educate older adults and health care providers
about the clinical health benefits of volunteerism
- Motivate health care providers to refer patients to volunteer
opportunities.
- Increase the number of Bay Area older adults that volunteer
by providing easy-to-use search tools and referral services
- Improve the mental and physical health of volunteers
- Address community needs such as education, homeland security
and elder care
The Rx:Volunteer
initiative is led by the Public
Health Institute in cooperation with Experience
Corps Bay Area.
